Many of the resources in the ERC were initially collected as part of the Assuring Better Child Health and Development (ABCD) consortia, funded by the Commonwealth Fund, administered by NASHP, and designed to assist states in improving the delivery of early child development services for low-income children and their families. The ERC includes information (policies, practices, forms, reports, methods, and contacts) on the ABCD consortia, the states involved, and links to other Web resources on early childhood development.
The toolbox is organized according to 10 major activities identified as critical to helping states promote early childhood development services. Each of the 10 activity pages provides a summary of ABCD key accomplishments in the area, followed by links to four types of tools and resources. These include resources produced by:
- ABCD states ,
- NASHP and the Commonwealth Fund, (which includes reports and papers that summarize and synthesize ABCD results),
- peer-reviewed literature, and
- other relevant sources.
From the activities page, you can further hone your results by searching one of the four types of resources available within each activity. For example, you may want to search the Engaging Leaders activity for NASHP resources—simply follow the resource type link on the bottom of the Engaging Leaders page that reads Resources produced by NASHP and The Commonwealth Fund for Engaging Leaders .
To view all resources for a particular activity, simply use the advanced search function available in the upper right hand corner. The advanced search function provides a mechanism to identify tools and resources by activity, by type of resource, and/or by key word.
In addition, the ABCD consortia map provides links to all tools and resources developed by each of the 8 ABCD states organized according to the key activities and will also include resources produced by the ABCD Screening Academy states. As a result, it is possible to identify all of the tools that are available by each activity, or to identify all of the tools that are available for each individual state. To search for resources developed by ABCD states use “Find Resources by ABCD States.”
